5 Reasons You Should See a Chiropractor During Pregnancy

Chiropractic care is non-invasive, natural and has very, very few adverse side effects (and lots of beneficial ones!). Here are five reasons you should see a chiropractor if you are pregnant.

  1. Improved spinal and pelvic mobility and function. Pregnancy is a time when your body will change faster than it ever has or will outside of childhood. That's a lot for your system to handle! Getting adjusted can help ensure your pelvis, sacrum, ribs and spine are moving well. This will keep you and baby much more comfortable through pregnancy.

  2. Improved labor outcomes. Did you know that women who get adjusted throughout their pregnancy may see better labor outcomes? A woman's body is designed to give birth. However, the way we live our lives (lots of sitting and stress) may make the act of labor more difficult. Chiropractic care can improve your musculoskeletal alignment and brain body connection which can ultimately line you up for a better birth.

  3. Less low back pain. Ugh, low back pain is real! Sometimes is even manifests into sciatica (pressure on your sciatic nerve resulting in pain going down the back of your leg). Chiropractic care can help you with low back pain, regardless of if you are pregnant or not. It's estimated that up to 50% of pregnant women will experience low back pain - why not try chiropractic?

  4. Stress management. Chiropractic does a great job of helping your nervous system to regulate. It affects how your brain processes pain and stress. Some of my patients say they feel as though a weight has been lifted after an adjustment (that's how I often feel, too!). Pregnancy is a HUGE change for you and your family. Getting adjusted can help you, literally, adjust to this change.

  5. Support for a holistic approach to pregnancy. Not only do I adjust my pregnant patients, we'll also go over Spinning Babies techniques, exercise, stretching, posture, nutrition, supplements and more! I will never force my patients into doing anything, but I will support them in living their best life and designing a pregnancy and labor that works best for them and their families.

I didn't even touch on nausea, headaches, rib pain, breathing, collaboration with your massage therapist, midwife, acupuncturist... the list goes on and on. While I think everyone can benefit from adjustments (even the little ones!), I really, really love seeing the impact we have on pregnancy.

If you or someone you know is pregnant, don't hesitate to try chiropractic! You may be amazed at how you good you can feel and function when you receive regular adjustments during pregnancy.
