5 Reasons To See a Chiropractor Postpartum

I wrote about the reasons to see a chiropractor during pregnancy over on the Pregnant in the Prairies blog. And for most of us, that is very easy to understand. We do a lot to try and stay comfortable during pregnancy and to make labor and delivery as smooth as possible. But, what about when baby is here? Most of the focus is on baby and that is understandable! Those little nuggets are fully reliant on you. And that is a lot of work. Which is exactly why you could benefit from chiropractic care. I was actually surprised at how different sore I was postpartum. Instead of my pelvis feeling like it would shatter with one wrong move, my neck, shoulders and midback were constantly sore and under strain. Even Quinn was complaining about a sore mid back and he is in great shape and much bigger than both me and the baby! So, here are my top 5 reasons to see a chiropractor postpartum. All reasons apply to mom, but most apply to anyone taking care of a baby.

You're sore in ways you didn't expect - The physical demands of postpartum life are no joke. Hours of holding, feeding, carrying car seats, pacing the house and sleeping in strange positions take a toll on your body. Chiropractic adjustments help support your musculoskeletal system so it doesn’t feel like it’s completely falling apart, because let’s be honest, sometimes that’s exactly what it feels like. Postpartum soreness isn’t a sign you’re doing something wrong. It’s a sign you’re doing a lot.
You are incredibly time crunched - Yes, getting out of the house can feel like a production, but you also don’t have time for a 90-minute massage or extended appointments. Chiropractic visits are efficient and effective. Appointments are short, your baby is always welcome, and at White Horse Family Wellness we have space to nurse or change diapers if needed. Taking care of your body doesn’t have to be another overwhelming item on the to-do list.
Your nervous system needs support - Postpartum life is physically demanding, emotionally intense, and neurologically stimulating (hello, broken sleep and constant alertness). Chiropractic care supports nervous system regulation, which has been associated with reductions in pain, tension, fatigue, anxiety and overwhelm. Your body and brain are adapting to a brand-new season. Supporting your nervous system helps you meet that season with more resilience and ease.
Your baby can benefit, too - If you’re already getting adjusted, it’s a great time to have your baby checked as well. Birth—no matter how smooth—is a huge transition. Babies go from a warm, contained environment to gravity, movement, digestion and rapid neurological development. Gentle, age-appropriate chiropractic care can help support their nervous system as they grow and adapt during those incredibly fast-changing early years.
Because postpartum care shouldn’t stop at six weeks - So much postpartum care ends far too soon. But your body doesn’t magically “reset” at six weeks. Healing, adapting, and rebuilding strength both physically and neurologically takes time. Chiropractic care supports you through that longer arc of recovery, helping you feel more connected, capable and comfortable in your body as you step into motherhood. You deserve care during this season, too.
