Your nervous system controls all of your voluntary and involuntary actions. It sends signals from one part of your body to another part. It consists of a central nervous system, your brain and spinal cord, and a peripheral nervous system, your spinal and cranial nerves. It communicates through neural impulses or hormones. It keeps you in touch with your internal and external environment. It is the master control center of your body.
A doctor of chiropractic’s main goal is to properly influence the nervous system. When your nervous system is firing appropriately, your body then functions appropriately. Chiropractors look for subluxations. A subluxation is less than a dislocation, but more than a properly aligned joint. It could also be a joint that doesn't move properly or muscular imbalance. When the subluxation is addressed through a chiropractic adjustment, the nervous system’s function can be increased, allowing an improvement in the body’s function.
Chiropractic is a great way to ensure your body is operating with full potential. In addition to quality food, exercise, sleep and relaxation, chiropractic adjustments can and should be part of anyone’s wellness plan. From new born babies to grandma and grandpa, we can all benefit from a chiropractic adjustment.
